EMMA WILLCOCKS

Jewellery Making

As a young person I was inspired by a journey around Kenya. The landscape, the vegetation and the creative resourcefulness of the Kenyan people, made a huge impression on me.

I took a degree in ‘Art and Social Context’ at Dartington College of Arts. Here, after a life of making things from fabric and wool, sewing and knitting throughout my childhood, I discovered metal and welding. I became excited by metal and its possibilities for durability and form. I enjoy simple jewellery making techniques, mark making, hammering and melting and they make me feel connected to people from other times and cultures.

I live in Brighton with my family and I am a member of Phoenix Arts Association, where I have had a studio for sixteen years and have been teaching jewellery making and art courses there for the past ten years
