Outreach ARCHIVE 2009

The Outreach Programme

Hove Fire Station

A number of very successful pilot projects have informed the future direction of the outreach programme.

These include a redesign of Tarner Park, working with RH Architectural Partnership, Friends of Tarner Park and the Environmental Officer from B&HCC, a gallery visit for the Tarner Older People’s Group with talk by exhibiting artist, Nigel Green and ‘Incident’ youth project which included a visit to Hove Fire station and creative workshops alongside the Photo Fringe exhibition.

‘I would like to thank the people involved in this project. Working with Denise Felkin and the architects on consulting park users at Tarner Park has been a pleasure and a very useful  exercise. The results of this consultation will be used to bid for further funds to improve the park’
Tony Baker – Environmental improvement officer – Brighton and Hove Council.

Integrated planning with the future exhibitions programme will bring new audiences into the gallery. Building on the success of many of our short courses and events, we hope to establish ‘Young Phoenix Brighton’, a creative club for interested young people aged 10 – 16 years.

Tarner Mural Project

Tarner Park

Phoenix Brighton artist, Nik the Brush, has been working on a project set up by the Tarner Area Partnership, in which people from Kingswood and Milner Residents Association were in encouraged to get involved with brightening up their local neighbourhood.

Nancy Pollard, Chair of the Tarner Area Partnership said, "Murals like this enable us to come together as a community and be proud of where we live."

Debbie Dudeney, Chair of the Kingswood and Milner Residents Association said, "We needed something like this to brighten up the area. The paint donation from local Dulux Decorator Centre has been fantastic. We are extremely grateful for the interest and support of the team.”

Dulux Decorator Centres donated the paint as part of their ‘Colouring the Community’ scheme and Martin Lane, store manager at Brighton Dulux Decorator Centre, said: “We were honored to help out with this project. It’s so gratifying to see a community come together in this way. Not only does the mural look fantastic, but it has really transformed the area.”
